To bid farewell to Mr. Kimihide Ando, Senior Vice President and Chief Executive, Mitsubishi Corporation in Pakistan, a gathering was arranged at LUMS on March 20, 2019. It was attended by the top management of Mitsubishi Corporation and LUMS as well as students at the University, sponsored by Mitsubishi.
The Mitsubishi Corporation has provided tremendous support to the LUMS community by sponsoring talented students through the Waseda University Exchange Programme and the Financial Support Programme at LUMS. Dr. Shahid Masud, Acting Vice Chancellor and Dean, Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering, thanked Mr. Ando for his generous support, especially with regard to sponsoring students, and for helping bridge the gap between the industry and the academia. Furthermore, Dr. Masud welcomed the upcoming General Manager Mitsubishi Corporation Pakistan, Mr. Atsushi Fuji, and requested him to help develop more linkages between Waseda University and LUMS.
Mr. Ando responded by thanking Dr. Masud, and expressing how talented and dedicated the Pakistani community is. He further spoke about his association with LUMS, as well as with Syed Babar Ali. He also engaged in discussions with some of the students who went to Waseda University through the exchange programmes. Later, Mr. Fuji introduced himself and spoke briefly about the importance of Pakistan for global businesses, and the importance of working hard to deliver results.
A small interactive session was later held, where the students who were sponsored on the Waseda University Exchange Programmes spoke about their life-changing experiences in Japan and thanked the Mitsubishi team for offering these opportunities to them. They asserted that such opportunities should be extended to other universities beyond LUMS as well. Mr. Ando assured the students that he will ensure more opportunities for them in the future.
Towards the end of the ceremony, a shield was presented to Mr. Ando by Dr. Masud in appreciation of his support towards the LUMS community. Later, Dr. Tahir Shah Andrabi, Dean, Syed Ahsan Ali and Syed Maratib Ali School of Education presented a book about the University’s history titled LUMS – The First Thirty Years to Mr. Fuji.
Other attendees from the Mitsubishi Corporation at the farewell ceremony were Minato Kageyama; Upstream Business Team, Indonesia Oil & Gas Business Department, Energy Resource Division A, Energy Business Group, Shigeki Terada; Assistant General Manager, Development, Global Marketing Department, Syed Zia Shams; Assistant Manager, Mahir Abbas; General Manager. Representing LUMS at the ceremony, along with Dr. Masud and Dr Andrabi, was Ms. Nuzhat Kamran, Director, Office of Advancement. Almaee Hassan Jaffri, General Manager, National Management Foundation, was also present at the event.
