It was a day to relive cherished LUMS memories and revive university friendships on Saturday, August 19, 2017 when the annual LUMS New York Alumni Reunion took place at Basera Indian Bistro in New York. LUMS Rector, Abdul Razak Dawood, was there to welcome the alumni on behalf of LUMS.
The event kicked off with speeches by Annum Munir, BS 2013, and Munazzah Malik, MBA 1990, who are both members of the New York Alumni Chapter. The entire Chapter, along with the LUMS Office of Alumni Relations, is very thankful to alumnus Abid Nasim, MBA 1991, for his generous contribution of sponsoring the event. After the introductory speeches, Nasim was awarded with a certificate of appreciation by Abdul Razak Dawood for his spirit of giving back and Annum Munir was recognised as an Ambassador for LUMS for the New York Alumni Chapter.
This was soon followed by a delicious lunch, after which Abdul Razak Dawood addressed the alumni, and spoke to them about the ways in which LUMS has grown over the years. He talked about how LUMS has developed from primarily offering an MBA degree to becoming a multi-disciplinary University, and how it has now been termed the 'Best University in Pakistan' by HEC. He expressed his commitment to the continuing journey of progress for the University and shared that he had recently had a full day session in Boston with leading universities including Harvard, MIT, and Stanford where the whole day was dedicated to discussing the best practices in the industry regarding LUMS. He also urged all alumni with specializations to consider coming back to LUMS and becoming a part of the teaching community.
The alumni were also informed about the developments in infrastructure at LUMS, and how there is room for further expansion of schools and programmes, including the launch and growth of the Lifetime Learning @LUMS programme.
The reunion also served as an opportunity for the alumni to elect new office bearers for the New York Alumni Chapter. The following alumni were elected for the Chapter positions:
