Acknowledging the generous contributions of the Faisalabad community towards the LUMS mission, the Office of Advancement hosted its Annual Dinner in Faisalabad on Friday, November 22, 2019 at the Serena Hotel.
Esteemed members from leading organisations in Faisalabad were welcomed by the LUMS leadership present at the event including Founding Pro Chancellor, Syed Babar Ali; Vice Chancellor LUMS, Dr. Arshad Ahmad; members of the LUMS Management Committee; Director of the LUMS Energy Institute, Dr. Naveed Arshad and Director, Office of Advancement, Ms. Nuzhat Kamran. LUMS alumni residing in Faisalabad also attended the dinner.
The dinner provided an opportunity for the LUMS leadership to apprise the Faisalabad community about the University’s new directions and establish new partnerships with them.
The evening opened with Ms. Kamran giving a short presentation on LUMS followed by a video highlighting alumnus, Shahrukh Swati’s journey from his hometown to LUMS, an inspirational story narrated in his own words.
Later, Dr. Naveed Arshad shared details about the LUMS Energy Institute through a detailed presentation. He explained how the Centre aims to help the power sector in Pakistan through renewable energy technologies, electrification and grid modernisation. An interactive Question and Answer session was held right after the presentation to address any questions from the audience.
Talking about the importance of engagements such as the Annual Dinner, Dr. Ahmad said, “This is one of the new directions in which LUMS wants to go, which is really to focus our intellectual capital on real issues in Pakistan and not in an ivory tower.” He also explained how the other centres at LUMS are working towards solving Pakistan’s greatest challenges.
As the LUMS Founding Pro Chancellor, Syed Babar Ali expressed gratitude to the Faisalabad community for being a part of the event and also acknowledged the generous contributions of the donors present. He said, “We have a very generous scholarship programme, which ensures that anybody who has the ability to qualify for LUMS but does not have the means to pay the fee is always welcome to join the University.”
Acknowledgement shields were presented to Chairman and CEO Interloop Ltd., Mr. Musadaq Zulqarnain, and CEO Sadaqat Ltd., Mr. Khurram Mukhtar in absentia for their benevolent contributions to LUMS.
The evening ended with a sumptuous dinner where the guests had a great time networking with each other.
