Building on its promise to stand as a gateway to knowledge, LUMS opened up its doors of opportunities to bright talented students of Sri Lanka on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Cinnamon Grand Colombo, Ivy Banquet Hall, Sri Lanka as it hosted the LUMS MBA Open Day. The event proved to be a successful opportunity for the University to raise awareness about LUMS and motivate applicants from Sri Lanka to especially benefit from the University’s fully funded MBA programme.
Starting at 10 in the morning to rounding off by 5 in the evening, the LUMS MBA Open Day Sri Lanka was an eventful energy packed event spread over three back to back information sessions. The day started off with on ground registrations by University representatives who welcomed the Sri Lankan nationals. Keynote speaker, Dr. Jawad Syed, Dean and Professor of Organisational Behaviour at Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB), inspired prospective students in the opening speech to come experience the world-class MBA programme at the School. Also present on the occasion was, Alumnus Chaminda Hettiarachchi, Director Fablanka Foundation, who informed the audience about his outstanding experience at LUMS and answered several queries at the Open Day. Sri Lanka based Luminite, Tiffany Fernendo, mingled with the crowd and conversed about her current experiences at the University.
One of the most esteemed guests at the event was Major General (R) Syed Shakeel Hussain, High Commissioner of Pakistan, who ensured special consideration of all applications to LUMS. He further added that all support would be provided to the applicants to ease the visa process.
Prospective students and their parents were enthralled to have LUMS representatives on their home ground. Meeting Dr. Jawad Syed, the Dean of SDSB in person and getting to know about the University’s Business School, SDSB, its flagship MBA programme and most importantly the most attractive fully funded scholarships specifically for SAARC countries, namely, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan was an outstanding experience for each of the participants.
“I’m quite impressed by the Business School, its MBA programme and the global careers prospects that it promises to offer. I’ll definitely apply for the scholarships,” said a Sri Lankan student. Another participant’s parent at the open day said that the range of scholarships offered are amazing and he would urge his daughter to apply for the MBA.
Along with addressing the numerous queries of the parents and prospective students, the LUMS team also provided individual counselling to prospective students, who walked away satisfied and quite enthusiastic with the information they had received. They were of the opinion that the session was very useful and helpful in making an informed decision about their future academic plans.
