The flagship event of the LUMS Entrepreneurial Society (LES) began on January 1, 2018 with an opening ceremony where teams from all across Pakistan gathered to celebrate entrepreneurship, innovation, teamwork and diversity. The ceremony included inspiring speeches by the president and the project heads and a fantastic flashmob which ended in the revelation of the winners' trophy for the Young Leaders and Entrepreneurs' Summit (YLES) 2018.
The event involved six entrepreneurial rounds where the participants were judged by experts of the entrepreneurial world on their ability to think out of the box, present their idea, advertise, manage time (and money) and take decisions. In addition to these competitive rounds, the five day event also comprised of a number of workshops and talks, one of which taught an ad-making software while another imparted knowledge on trading in the commodity market. These theoretical learnings were then tested in the entrepreneurial rounds as participants brainstormed at the ‘Idea Junction’, creatively designed at ‘Plug It In’, analysed and took risks at the ‘Strategic Business Management’ round, reinvented and improvised during ‘Brand Rush’, devised strategies at ‘Investomania’ and inspired and innovated during the ‘Social Sustainability’ round.
In addition to these rigorous challenges, YLES '18 provided a plethora of social events. While 'Meet and Greet' at the first day gave a chance to all the teams to interact and socialise with each other, networking night was the golden opportunity for the students to listen to some famous names such as Adeel Hashmi, Omair Rana and Mehreen Murtaza share their inspiring life stories. In addition, the highly awaited concert was a blast as popular singer, Farhan Saeed, followed by the band, Somewhat Super, sang their all-time favourite hits and the crowd swayed with the beat. The event also included a huge carnival with bubble soccer, HD movie screening and tons of delicious food!
The tireless hard work of the host team materialised in a successful event that ended with a grand dinner at the Closing Ceremony that encompassed the Tech-Savvy theme of the event. The winners were revealed with Nixor College bagging the beautiful trophy of the winner of YLES '18 along with the wining prize of a full scholarship worth 24,000 pounds at Solve Business School, Paris. The memorable summit concluded on January 5, 2018, with hopes of an even better congregation next year.
