LUMS Chemistry Students Placed at Top Industries for Summer Internships

The Chemistry Programme at LUMS is designed to create innovative future leaders with a robust understanding of chemical, physical, biological, and mathematical principles for successful careers in chemical science and related fields in industrial, academic, government and non-government organisations. The strength of the standards of teaching and research of the Programme is demonstrated by the fully funded placements of graduates in top-notch Universities in the world.

The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering at LUMS is closely working with the industry in Pakistan for the purposes of exposing students to the industrial environment and preparing them for industrial careers. One of the initiatives that the Department is actively pursuing is the placement of students in the leading industries of the country for summer internships. The response and the support from the industry has been phenomenal.

Internship partners for the summer 2018 placements include Nestlé Pakistan Ltd., Getz Pharma Pvt. Ltd., DIC Pakistan Ltd., and Genetics Pharmaceuticals Pakistan Ltd. Any student that has expressed interest in pursuing an industrial career has been given the opportunity of acquiring firsthand experience of the industrial environment via internship placements in the aforementioned companies. Muhammad Bilal (BS Chemistry), Maria Komal (MS Chemistry), Saad Faheem (BS Chemistry) and Aleena Tahir (MS Chemistry) are currently working at Nestlé Pakistan Ltd. Nestlé Pakistan is the leading Food and Beverages Company in Pakistan and is a subsidiary of Nestlé S.A., a company based in Vevey, Switzerland.

Suman Arif (BS Chemistry) is working at Getz Pharma Pvt. Ltd., which is one of the leading pharmaceutical companies in Pakistan and the only one in the country whose manufacturing facility is pre-qualified and approved by the World Health Organization (WHO), Geneva and is a Pharmaceutical Inspection Co-operation Scheme (PIC/S) member.

Mahnoor Shahid (BS Chemistry) and Maryam Mohsin (MS Chemistry) are working at DIC Pakistan Ltd., which is Pakistan's largest printing ink manufacturer and specialises in providing compliant inks for food packaging to the leading multinational companies in Pakistan.

A group of students including Noor Ul Huda (MS Chemistry), Mahjabeen Arshad (MS Chemistry), Shahera Fatima (MS Chemistry), and Asma Sheikh (MS Chemistry) is working at Genetics Pharmaceuticals Pakistan Ltd., one of Pakistan’s leading pharmaceutical companies dealing in innovative and research-proven products for neuropsychiatric illnesses. They have ventured into various other specialities as well. The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering believes that the training these students will receive during their summer internships at these leading industries will instil new skills in them that will be instrumental in their professional success.  

The placement of LUMS Chemistry students for industrial internships is part of the efforts of the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering towards the realisation of its vision to train regional and global leaders in chemical sciences. The Department values effective industry-academia partnerships as one of the keys to the success of the Chemistry Programmes at LUMS.
