Gad and Birgit Rausing Library in collaboration with LUMS Literary Society celebrated 141st birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal on November 13, 2018 at Academic Block, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). Justice (R) Nasira Javed Iqbal, a jurist, philanthropist and human rights activist; daughter-in-law of the great poet, Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal graced the event as chief guest. She spread the message of Iqbal to the youth and emphasised on practicing concept of millat for the unity of the nation, a noble cause to lead the Muslim world and to raise quality leadership among the youth with pride.
Dr. Zahid Munir Amir, Professor Urdu and Pakistan Studies, Chairman Department of Urdu was guest speaker at the event. He spoke about Iqbal's concept of millat and his message to youth. He briefed about difference between millat and nationalism. He advised the youth to have confidence in their abilities and be 'Shaheens' of the nation. Dr. Moeen Niazmi, Director Gurmani Centre for Languages and Literature at MGSHSS concluded the programme and appreciated the library's efforts to celebrate Iqbal Day.
LUMS students and SOZE band presented Kalam-e-Iqbal to the audience, the participants admired students’ participation making the event memorable. Justice (R) Nasira Javed Iqbal also inaugurated 'Iqbal Corner' in the library where readers can get benefit from books by Iqbal and on Iqbal by renowned authors.
Allama Iqbal Stamps Society Lahore organised an exhibition of Iqbal''s letters, stamps and coins. Iqbal Academy publications stall was also arranged on 50% discounts for LUMS community. Students showed keen interest in Iqbal’s publications and exhibition.
Iqbal Day was celebrated with enthusiasm and zeal and every one thoroughly enjoyed the event.
