Keeping their annual tradition, Sports at LUMS (SLUMS) and the Office of Sports , Wellness and Recreation hosted the LUMS Annual Games (LAG). The games provided the LUMS community an opportunity to showcase their sporting talent in a number of sports.
The LUMS Annual Games is an interschool event, where the four schools of LUMS, Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB); Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS); Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE) and Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law (SAHSOL) face each other in a number of sports. The students represented their schools with enthusiasm and rigour, which added to the excitement of the games.
The participation was not only limited to students, as over two hundred faculty and staff members also participated in the games, the largest number since the start of these annual games. This year more than three thousand students, divided in the various sports teams, took part in the games.
The popular, LUMS Annual Marathon, an integral part of the LUMS Annual Games, was held on an exciting Saturday morning with a large number of participants. The marathon was divided into three categories, faculty, students and children; each category had a sub category for males and females. The faculty marathon was won by Ali Amer and Dr. Ghazal. The student’s marathon winners were Muhammad Oneeb and Amna Warraich, while Essa and Mariam won the children’s race.
Other sports at LAG included athletics, tennis, football, rugby, cricket etc. This year the LAG hosted nineteen events. MGSHSS dominated the competition, with victory in seven events, but maintaining the winning streak was not easy as SBASSE and SDSB ended the event with six victories each. It was probably the closest final competition ever.
The audience witnessed a number of nail biting contests. The event was full of stories of resilience, commitment and hard work; there was heartbreak and joy but above all there was an atmosphere of healthy competition.
