A new collaboration in support of the local dairy business sector was finalised between Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and Tetra Pak Pakistan on Thursday, February 9, 2017.
Speaking at the ceremony held at LUMS, MD Tetra Pak Pakistan, Jorge Montero said, “We’re very happy to have this collaboration with LUMS. This is a very important sector of the Pakistani economy and the programme will help us bring in government officials into the picture as well. The government has a very important role to play in terms of modernisation of the dairy sector and by bringing in diverse participants, it would be able to identify opportunities of improvement.”
As part of this arrangement, Tetra Pak Pakistan will sponsor fifteen agribusiness entrepreneurs, farmers and professionals to go through a comprehensive 24-days learning experience designed to positively impact dairy management practices and provide innovative breakthroughs. The initiative also covers Tetra Pak scholarships for development of a dairy management workshop targeted to improve productivity, cost effective and innovative agri-farming and feeding; effective farm operations and good practices and dairy technology and advancements through prudent processing design and production planning.
Vice Chancellor LUMS, Prof. Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi, speaking at the ceremony, expressed his appreciation for the collaboration with Tetra Pak Pakistan. “Dairy is an important piece in the puzzle of the bigger picture and we need more people who understand and can manage this sector. The collaboration will not only result in transfer of industry knowledge in the field of dairy but will lead to enhanced productivity as well,” he said.
Programme Director, Fazal Jawad, emphasised the significance of such initiatives and the support of industry players like Tetra Pak in creating a tangible impact. He said, “A programme that has collaboration with the industry people, has the most impact.” Dean of the Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB), Jawad Syed and Faculty Director Rausing Executive Development Centre (REDC), Muhammad Adeel Zaffar also highlighted the importance of this collaboration.
LUMS and Tetra Pak Pakistan will continue their collaboration with the help of this Executive Certificate in Dairy Management in the upcoming years as well. This ground breaking initiative has been led by Assad Abbas and Shah M. Amir Saeed from Tetra Pak Pakistan.
