It was a night of festivity and success for the Lifetime Learning @LUMS (LLL) community as they held their very first graduation ceremony on Sunday, 4 June, 2017.
Hosted in celebration of the completion of a highly successful first session, the LLL Graduation Ceremony was an exciting evening that brought together all the individuals who has made this pioneering programme possible including the graduates as well as the valued instructors. The commemorative occasion was also attended by LUMS Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. S. Sohail H. Naqvi, LUMS Rector, Abdul Razak Dawood, and LUMS Chief Operating Officer, Nabiha Shahnawaz.
One of the key objectives of the event was to showcase the learning of the students from the session, and in this effort, a number of performances and display exhibits were incorporated into the agenda of the evening.
To begin with, the beautiful and captivating works of photography by the students of the ‘Become Camera Savvy’ class, and the intricately detailed creative pieces by the ‘Draw Like Picasso’ participants were put on display in a photo gallery.
The ceremony opened with a welcome speech by Masooma Zeeshan, Head of Lifetime Learning @LUMS, who acted as the Master of Ceremony for the evening. After a brief introduction of the LLL programme, the ceremony commenced with an enlightening live performance by the students of the ‘Know Thyself: Introduction to Personality’ class. This was followed by a cheerful song on video by the French class, and a self-composed soul-stirring live performance by the students of the ‘Soul Drumming’ class. The participants of the Zumba class then showed a recording of the dance-fitness fun they have had been having every week. Wrapping up the performances of the evening was the Performing Arts class, who put on an enchanting enactment that combined components of music, dance and theatre.
Abdul Razak Dawood and Dr. Naqvi both then addressed the gathering, congratulating the students on their pursuit of learning outside of the realm of standard education, and applauding them for joining this remarkable programme at LUMS. Together they awarded the participants with certificates, and encouraged them to stay engaged with LLL in the future.
After the ceremony, the attendees had the opportunity to browse through the photo and art gallery, and take memorable pictures together. The evening concluded with a lavish iftar-cum-dinner of traditional cuisine that allowed the attendees to mix and mingle, and have an enjoyable time connecting with each other.
