Kamal M. Amjad Mian Inspires at the Second Session of ‘Leaders at LUMS’

A stimulating and awe-inspiring session by Mr. Kamal M. Amjad Mian, Director Fast Cables Limited was hosted by the LUMS Office of Development on November 16, 2017, a second in a series of events titled Leaders at LUMS.

Adeel Hashmi, popular media personality took the stage along with Mr. Mian as a Moderator. In this question and answer format session, Mr. Mian started off by sharing anecdotes from his background, his journey towards becoming a corporate success, his experiences and his greatest fear - not being able to meet commitments.

Mr. Mian stressed on the importance of empathy and giving back to society. He stated that a lack of empathy is not beneficial in any way, as it hinders personal growth and development. “One should have a broad perspective of life. Be considerate towards others; sometimes life isn’t just what you see in your sphere, it is more than that,” said Mr. Mian.

When asked about LUMS in particular, Mr. Mian applauded the hard work and resolve taken to make LUMS an institution that is at par with international standards.

The session took an interesting turn when Mr. Mian shared his experiences with the audience and revealed everything that led him to where he is today. “My mantra is to do the best!” he advised.

The second session concluded on a positive note with the audience greatly appreciating the advice and wisdom imparted by Mr. Mian.

A self-made man, Mr. Mian has served as an executive committee member of the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) and President of Harvard Club of Pakistan in 2015-16. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Ihsaan Trust, Karachi and Fatima Latif Welfare Trust, Lahore. As a professional, Mr. Mian has more than 20 years of experience in the local and international corporate and industrial sectors. He holds a Master of Laws degree with a specialisation in corporate and international finance from Harvard Law School, Harvard University, USA. He began his career as a corporate law attorney at Pakistan’s leading corporate law firm, Orr, Dignam and Co., Islamabad.

Subsequently, Mr. Mian has worked in the corporate and investment banking industry in the Middle East and was the Head of Islamic Banking and Finance at ABN Amro Bank’s Saudi subsidiary Saudi Hollandi Bank before joining his family business.

At the end of the session, Hira Akbar, a BS Electrical Engineering student was awarded the Fast Excellence Award (a cash prize of PKR 100,000) by Fast Cables Limited for maintaining the highest CGPA in the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering (SBASSE) at LUMS. Fast Cables Limited offers merit based excellence awards to talented students from various universities who demonstrate academic excellence.
