Generation and storage of renewable and sustainable energy presently, is among the major scientific and technological challenges. In this context, the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering organised a one-day conference, ‘Sustainable Energy Production and Storage.’
Innovative national and international researchers from different institutes gathered at the Conference and exchanged ideas and developments to address the challenges in the fields of biofuels, photo-catalysis, energy storage, and chemical process integration. This conference provided a unique opportunity for students and young researchers to interact with leading researchers from different domains of energy and sustainable science to come up with modern solutions to the impending energy crisis.
Dr. Saqib Toor, Associate Professor at Aalborg University, Denmark; Professor Sohail Murad, Chair of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Illinois Institute of Technology, USA and Dr. Syed Atif Pervez, Research Scientist, Helmholtz Institute Ulm, Germany were among the international invited speakers. Eminent researchers from UET, NUST, GIKI, COMSATS, NFC-IEFR, and UOG also presented their latest work on renewable energy production and storage.
Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Dr. Muhammad Shoaib was the principal organiser of the event. Sharing his thoughts, Dr. Shoaib said, "Since the global population is swelling and industrialisation is on the rise in developing nations, energy demand has reached unprecedented high levels. Currently, more than half of our energy comes from fossil fuels that have taken a potentially devastating toll on the planet and efforts to replace fossil sources of energy need to be replaced with renewable ones."
Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering strives to provide solutions to national challenges through excellence in research and academia-industry-government collaborations.
