MBA Batch of 1988 was the inaugural MBA class at LUMS. On February 4, 2019, Batch 1988 came back to their alma mater to pledge their support and announce an endowment grant to support the studies of financially challenged graduate level students inducted at LUMS.

The MOU was signed at the Faculty Lounge and stipulated the establishing of an endowment fund with PKR 11 Million to support the studies of one graduate level student in perpetuity. Members of MBA Class of 1988 present at the ceremony included Ms. Ayesha Naweed, Mr. Burhan Khan, Mr. Adeel Aslam, Mrs. Aaliya Adeel and Mr. Nauman Khalid Butt. Dr. Arshad Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, LUMS and Ms. Nuzhat Kamran, Director, Office of Advancement, LUMS, represented the University.

Dr. Ahmad lauded the efforts of the University’s senior most batch in supporting the cause of education and talked about some wonderful initiatives undertaken by LUMS recently. He also discussed the University’s future strategic plans and sought support from the senior alumni body in guiding and mentoring young students. He further invited the senior alumni to come forward with innovative and practical ideas that may help their alma mater in achieving its mission of becoming an international leader in higher education. Dr. Ahmad stressed upon making the University a collaborative space where all members of the LUMS community have the chance to discuss ideas with each other as two-way conversations lead to the generation of fabulous initiatives.

The guests shared interesting and exciting experiences they had as the very first batch of LUMS and talked about the values of hard work, integrity and high standards, which are embedded in the culture of the University since its inception. The guests also gave very valuable input about bridging the gap between academia and industry through training courses relevant to the corporate sector. Additionally, in order to enhance engagement with alumni, the University was advised to initiate a guest speaker series where alumni from different professional backgrounds and experiences may counsel the students on the specific areas of their expertise.
