The Human Resource Department (HRD) at LUMS organised a customised training session on Business Communication for the members of the Registrar’s Office.  The training was delivered by Ms. Zainab Abdullah, a Corporate Trainer and Regional Marketing Manager at EfroTech Services. EfroTech Services is a consultancy and software development firm focused on HR, marketing and supply chain solutions based on industry best practices.

The training module was customised to meet the needs of the staff members. It was divided into six sessions of two hours each, which took place from February 19, 2013 to March 19, 2013.

The sessions focused on the importance of communication and basic rules of effective communication, writing e-mails and business letters with formal neutral & informal tones. Ms. Abdullah also told the participants tip on writing Invitations, enquiries, complaints and apologies along with documenting meeting minutes and proofreading. Business communication encompasses not only communicating with external contacts but also with employees within the organisation. For facilitating internal communication elements of e-mails and memos and for external communication elements of business letters were discussed in detail.

The knowledge of the participants was tested by exercises and group activities involving implementation of the principles discussed.  The participants were engaged in group activities, discussions and also provided feedback regarding the sessions. Presentation skills of the staff members were tested in one of the sessions and they received important guidelines regarding improving their presentation styles.

The Human Resource Department plans to hold such sessions in future for LUMS employees to enhance their communication skills and performance at work.
