Taking forward its aim of attracting the top talent in the country and facilitating Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) and Graduate Record Examinations (GRE) preparation for its candidates, the Marketing and Communications office organised a free GMAT and GRE Workshop from January 11-13, 2019 in Lahore.
GMAT and GRE can be intimidating for even the brightest students - that is why LUMS wanted to support candidates in the process and help them learn the strategies and test-taking techniques to maximise their scores. The Workshop was very useful for those interested in applying to the LUMS graduate programmes. It allowed many hopefuls the opportunity to prepare for their GMAT and GRE Examinations free of cost at LUMS. The Workshop also included information sessions about the Institution’s graduate programmes, mainly the SBASSE MS and PhD Programmes, MPhil Education Leadership and Management, SDSB PhD Management, MBA and the Executive MBA.
The seasoned instructor, Mr. Haroon Sajjad, made a great effort in giving useful insights about the Math section of both examinations whereas the English section of the examinations was catered by Mr. Faiz Rasheed.
The three-day workshop also included a session by LUMS alumni sharing an overview with the attendees about LUMS. The alumni included Waleed Yazdani (MBA), Arsalan Jumani (MS CS), Burhan (MS Mathematics), Waleed Riaz (MS CS), Fariha Zahid (PhD Management) and Yasir Riaz (PhD Management). They also answered all the queries related to admissions, financial support and career options after graduation, put up by the attendees.
Dr. Ghufran Ahmad, Professor and Programme Director, PhD Management curated the session where he elaborated on the Programme courses offered and various research and career options. Information and queries regarding PhD and Masters courses offered at the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering were shared by faculty members, Dr. Tariq Jadoon, Dr. Falak Sher, Dr. Basit Shafique and Dr. Adam Zaman Chaudhry. And lastly, faculty member, Dr. Bushra Naqvi handled the MBA session where she gave an overview about the latest learning techniques applied during the programme.
“The session was an excellent initiative by LUMS, which helped me clear a lot of misconceptions about the exams and learn some great techniques to tackle the various components,” shared a workshop participant.
Previously, free GMAT Workshops were organised in Karachi and Islamabad in December 2018. The two-day workshops in both, Islamabad and Karachi specifically catered to those hoping to ace their upcoming GMAT exams. The instructors, Mr. Sajjad and Mr. Rasheed gave the applicants invaluable tips at the sessions attended by a large number of eager applicants.
