Mushtaq Ahmad Gurmani School of Humanities and Social Sciences (MGSHSS), with the support of the Gurmani Foundation, designed and implemented a four-week pilot project in July 2018 by the name of Advanced Summer Learning Initiative (ASLI).

As part of this initiative, the MGSHSS offered completely funded training to 37 LUMS students in the areas of reading/comprehension, writing, and communication skills in English along with a focus on Mathematics and critical thinking approaches. Students were required to attend five-hour four-days a week classes with highly qualified faculty, participate in activities with peer mentors, and take on weekly excursions to cultural sites. The programme ended with a farewell dinner followed by a screening of a farewell video compiled by the students.
