The LUMS Emergency Medical Service (EMS) celebrated its closing ceremony on Sunday, April 21, 2019, amid much fun and laughter, with the graduating batch reminiscing about the past. The theme was ‘Aloha’ so the auditorium was decorated with huge flowers and banners, with flower necklaces for everyone.
A student volunteer group, EMS works for the welfare of the entire campus community by providing free, 24 hour, pre-hospital treatment to a list of emergencies, from small bruises to multiple fractures. Established in 2011, the EMS consists of over 60 members that are trained as medical first responders by professional organisations.
Mr. Babar Asad Khan, Head of EMS and Ms. Hiba Zakai, Head of CCA Office were also present at the ceremony. The outgoing president, Momina Abid, made a speech that captured what EMS meant to her in the last few years. The upcoming MFRs were awarded with certificates of completion and the new executive council was announced.
The trainees had prepared a programme for their seniors and titles were given to the graduating seniors. A couple of trainees also performed a skit that elicited laughter from everyone. The ceremony concluded with a slideshow of the graduating seniors — pictures of trips, orientations and of the years spent together. Over all, it was a ceremony that allowed everyone to properly say goodbye to the graduating batch and welcome, with fervor and laughter, the new exciting year for EMS.
