A five-member delegation of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) of the Republic of Maldives visited LUMS on Thursday, June 27, 2019 to meet the Vice Chancellor, Dr. Arshad Ahmad and the Deans of the Schools to discuss potential academic partnerships between LUMS and universities in Maldives.
Dr. Ahmad addressed the delegation and shared the overall vision of the University and responded to queries. Dr. Shahid Masud, Dr. Kamran Asdar and Dr. Adeel Zaffar were present to share the various research activities being conducted at their respective Schools.
The delegation was given an overview by Dr. Ahmad about the University’s international stature. He shared that LUMS has achieved the prestigious AACSB accreditation, and is the 11th university in Asia to do so. Dr. Ahmad also explained to the delegation that in addition to the exceptional Business School, LUMS has four other Schools covering Humanities and Social Sciences, Law, Science and Engineering and Education.
He also shared the extensive work being conducted by the Centre for Water Informatics and Technology, which is getting recognition from the local government for implementation in future projects. Talking about other initiatives he added, “We also have an Energy Institute which is involved in renewable and sustainable energy.”
The discussion also covered international practices followed by a campus tour. The CSC members appreciated the research performances of the different Schools and Centres at LUMS and invited the University to partake in the annual educational expo in Maldives in September.
Dr. Ahmad showed a keen interest to collaborate with universities in Maldives in order to widen opportunities for students and strengthen ties between the two countries.
