The LUMS Alumni Office and the Career Services Office held a Q&A session on Central Superior Services (CSS) on Saturday November 12, 2016 at the Suleman Dawood School of Business. Principally aimed at current students and alumni, the session was led by our alumni namely, Sheharyar Ahmad, BSc 2010, Assistant Commissioner, Pakistan Administrative Service, Aisha Ghumman, BSc 2008, Assistant Manager, Punjab Saaf Paani Company and Muhammad Abdullah Lak, BSc 2011, Assistant Superintendent, Police Service of Pakistan.
The alumni shared valuable guidelines for the CSS examinations. They stressed that passing the CSS exams is all about studying smart and not just hard. When asked about how to ace the essay part of the exam, Sheharyar Ahmed said, “Don’t attempt any controversial or technical topic that starts proving your view. It is a literary essay, so bring out your creative side.”
The speakers were also asked to share their experiences about the different aspects of their jobs. When asked about corruption and accountability in public offices, the officers replied that “we need a new generation with a cleaner thought; those who are motivated and want to change the fate of Pakistan”. They also advised students that while serving the superior services one needs to put aside personal affiliations and political biases to cultivate remarkable results.
