Many are hindered great educational opportunities. Many intelligent and capable students are constrained because of the financial barriers that come their way and stop them to excel. "Little drops of water make the mighty ocean," is well said, and LUMS is trying to add its part and contribution to the best of its efforts. In line with this belief, through National Outreach Programme, LUMS is trying to reach out to underprivileged yet brilliant minds so that as many as possible can be reached out and made aware of the opportunities at LUMS.
Amidst the varied landscape, rich history, meaty delicacies and earnest hospitality, our outreach representatives ventured to the city of Peshawar and its neighbouring areas from December 10-14, 2018 to meet the bright students and inform them about the National Outreach Programme (NOP).
During their visit, a total of 14 colleges were visited and more than 730 students were presented to in the cities of Peshawar, Mardan, Risalpur, Charsadda and Kohat. Our team was warmly welcomed by authorities at the various institutions and information sessions took place with students in their first and second year of Intermediate. The sessions’ attendees were guided on how they could apply to the NOP Summer Coaching Session and were educated about the facilities and programmes offered at LUMS.
An interesting aspect of this visit was touching on minorities in the city of Kohat where students of various religions were presented to. Furthermore, a presentation was also organised at the Army Public School, Peshawar where the students who despite having faced the traumatic incident of the 2014 terrorist attack, were determined as ever. Their motivation, diligence and belief in the pursuit of knowledge, filled our team with even more zest to promote the message of higher education.
As always, feedback was obtained from educators at each college. Academic Coordinator, Dr. Bahadur Khan from the Fazlehaq College, Mardan praised the effort of LUMS in recruiting students through the NOP pipeline. Mr. Amir Izhar, Deputy Director Admissions at Islamia College, Peshawar too commented that the information sessions proved exceptionally motivational for students and encouraged them to think outside the box.
Moreover, as NOP aims to target the intellectuals who are financially disadvantaged, we hope that many get motivated throughout the days, and hope to have encouraged students of Peshawar and it surrounding areas to apply to the NOP Summer Coaching Session 2019.
