BS Chemistry graduates consistently receive fully funded PhD admission offers from top-notch graduate schools in United States including MIT, Princeton and many Ivy League universities. The graduates of the class of 2013 onwards have now started completing their PhD degrees and getting placements in world’s leading tech companies. Three Chemistry alumni from LUMS have recently been placed in Intel Corporation, a leading manufacturer of semiconductor chip and microprocessors being used by all the major computer system manufacturers (Apple, Lenovo, HP and Dell). Intel was ranked 5th in the list of the world’s largest tech companies by Forbes magazine in 2018.
Right after his graduation, BS Chemistry 2012 alumnus, Affawn Ashraf joined the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and completed his PhD degree in Chemistry in 2018. Immediately after his graduation from UMass, Amherst, Ashraf was offered a position at Intel Corporation, USA. Talking about his LUMS experience, Ashraf said, "The LUMS undergraduate programme has played a formative role in my educational and personal development. SBASSE's no-boundaries, cross discipline approach had a pivotal role in imparting a multidisciplinary experience. I believe this is of paramount importance if one is to have an impact in the modern world."
Sikandar Abbas, a graduate of BS 2013 and Ahmed Yousaf, from the class of BS 2014 completed their PhD degrees in Chemistry in 2018 from Carnegie Mellon University and Arizona State University respectively and also got placed at Intel Corporation, USA. It clearly reflects the great opportunities available to LUMS Chemistry graduates in renowned international companies.
The Department of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering strives to produce regional leaders in chemical sciences by providing excellence in teaching, research and academia-industry links. Every year, the success rate of the placements of BS graduates in Chemistry in fully funded PhD programmes of top-tier universities in the USA is 100 %, which is 80 % of the total Chemistry BS graduates.
