CGPM Holds Talk on Visual Storytelling and Citizenship Education by Shehri

Centre for Governance and Public Management (CGPM) at the Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB), LUMS, held its third Governance Lecture Series in this academic year, titled "Visual Storytelling and Citizenship Education” by Shehri Pakistan on January 26, 2018. The speaker for this talk was Mr. Arafat Mazhar, Director and Founder of Shehri Pakistan.

Mr. Arafat Mazhar and his team, who conducted the session highlighted the vision and philosophy behind Shehri Pakistan and elaborated upon the multi-faceted process behind producing engaging and educational videos on civic and legal rights. Through edutainment, the organisation underscores multiple indigenous issues such as the importance of water as well as the right to clean water, legal rights of citizens and the role of law to protect citizens and other similar multiple issues.

Shehri Pakistan offers accessible civic education in Urdu, which not only covers the principles and structures of government but also provides citizens with knowledge of how they can interact with the government and its institutions as well as outlines their responsibilities to the state and fellow citizens. Shehri has produced animations in Urdu covering various fundamental rights, the separation of powers, legal literacy and local government with plans to dub them into regional languages as well. Other Shehri products include posters, quizzes, Shehri Aaj, Shehri Muqalma, Shehri Mashwara, Shehri Helpdesk and Shehri Lughat.

Professor Dr. Azfar Nisar, Director of CGPM, along with students across the different schools at LUMS attended the talk and thoroughly enjoyed the event.
