Executive Certificate in Agribusiness Management (ECAM) offered by Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) in collaboration with Nestlé Pakistan, marked the completion of yet another successful year with a certificate distribution ceremony.
The third batch of participants of the modular certificate programme included executives from dairy, fertilizers, livestock, agri-trader, exports and processing as well as agri-entrepreneurs.
LUMS Pro-Chancellor, Syed Babar Ali congratulated the participants, commended the programme and stated that ECAM is very dear to him as there is tremendous amount of opportunity in livestock and horticulture where LUMS can collaborate with other players and add value.
“Programmes like these help bright people to develop rural areas that creates value and therefore injects money into the economy which benefits everyone,” stated Nestlé Pakistan’s Managing Director, Bruno Olierhoek. While addressing and congratulating the participants he added, “I am happy about the collaboration and that going forward LUMS will focus on horticulture and dairy as well which are important sectors.”
Jawad Syed, Dean Suleman Dawood School of Business (SDSB), thanked Nestlé Pakistan and the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands for their support and said, “In terms of its diversity, the programme continues to grow and has nominees from different backgrounds and across different areas.” Talking about the faculty’s perspective, he added, “The agribusiness programme has been a tremendous learning experience for SDSB faculty providing opportunities to interact with agribusiness experts, meet progressive farmers, and visit farms to observe best practices in agriculture within and outside Pakistan.”
ECAM is a long duration modular programme that includes courses on agri-economics, entrepreneurship, value chain and technology, finance and accounting among others, to equip participants with leading managerial skills and expertise. Participants gain a deeper understanding of the agribusiness sector and identify the opportunities that can be maximised to create value for their businesses and organisations.
Nestle Pakistan and the Embassy of Netherlands have been partners with LUMS for ECAM and the sponsorship and technical support from the funding partners have enabled the Rausing Executive Development Centre (REDC) to subsidise the programme for executives. ECAM has generated academic scholarship in the form of local and indigenous case writing as well as contribution to SDSB degree programmes.
