The Centre for Business & Society (CBS) organised the second lecture for its Governance Lecture Series during this academic year titled, ‘Katchi Abadis: The Problem and Ways to a Solution.' Mr. Tasneem Ahmed Siddiqui, the speaker for this session, is a Civil Servant and joined the service in 1965. In the first 20 years of his career, he served as a senior bureaucrat in different provinces of Pakistan.
His work at the Hyderabad Development Authority (HAD) and later the Sindh Katchi Abadis Authority (SKAA), won him the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1999. His idea of incremental housing development has been a game changer in tackling the squatter settlement problem.
During his talk, Mr. Siddiqui discussed Pakistan's poor housing situation, the informal sector's role in providing shelter to the low-income population in Pakistan, and formalising incremental housing development.
