The BSc Class of 2006 has pledged PKR 18 million for perpetual sponsorship of one National Outreach Programme (NOP) scholar at LUMS. The Class signed an MoU with LUMS on October 16, 2019 to finalise the gift. The NOP is a prestigious scholarship at LUMS offered to academically exceptional, underprivileged students from across Pakistan.
Ahsan Ejaz, the class representative of BSc Class of 2006, was accompanied by fellow batchmates—Maheen Qaiser, Tooba Malik, Mohammed Zeeshan Chaudhry and Bilal Tanweer (LUMS faculty member). Dr. Arshad Ahmad, Vice Chancellor LUMS; Dr. Shahid Masud, Dean Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering; Nuzhat Kamran, Director of Advancement LUMS, and the Advancement team were also present at the gathering.
The BSc Class of 2006 shared that they were greatly inspired by the scholarship programme and look forward to hiring NOP graduates in their organisations. They also discussed the tremendous brain drain the country was facing and highlighted how NOP graduates who moved back to their villages and hometowns, were leaving a tremendous impact within their communities.
Dr. Ahmad further reiterated that LUMS is a not-for-profit University and he was grateful to the alumni for giving back to their alma mater, since this gesture has a multiplier effect.
Graduates of the 2006 batch also reminisced about their time at LUMS while Dr. Ahmad shared personal stories from his life with the graduates, especially with regards to his experiences in academia. They also discussed new ways and avenues to raise funds for LUMS.
