The BSc class of 1998 was welcomed back to LUMS for their 20-Year Alumni Reunion on Saturday, December 29, 2018. The reunion was a momentous occasion as it marked the Class's two-decade long journey with LUMS.
The Luminites commenced the reunion with the planting of two Gulmohar trees on campus. The alumni then went on a campus tour of LUMS organised by the Office of Advancement, which was taken over by the Class of ‘98 pointing out their favourite spots from their days at LUMS, and laughingly sharing details about what they used to do at each location. The auditorium A-8 in the Academic Block was the next stop during the tour, where the alumni took the seats they used to sit on during their first quarter together at LUMS. By the time the group made it to the sports complex and swimming pool, the alumni started joking about asking for a refund of the fees they paid twenty years ago, as they did not get to enjoy these excellent facilities during their time. The alumni then took part in a boisterous game of table tennis to relive the many days and nights they had spent playing it in the lounge in the Academic Block.
Following the table tennis game was a wonderful dinner featuring their favourites, Chicken Manchurian and Sindhi Biryani. The alumni spent a fun-filled evening dining on the delicious food and partaking in a festive cake-cutting ceremony as they reminisced about their time at LUMS. Favourite faculty members including Dr. Zahoor Hassan, Ansa Zafar, Dr. Turab Hussain, Dr. Khalid Zaheer, Dr. Ghazala Irfan, Max Babri, Dr. Wasif Tanveer and Dr. Anjum Nasim made the evening special by joining the reunion.
The festivities continued late into the night when the alumni decided to gather at classmate, Salman Aslam and Nazish Afraz’s house for tea. A spirit of camaraderie and enjoyment was in the air as alumnus, Adil Sherwani and Amena Farooq, wife of alumnus Waqar Ul Haq, sang and Umar Saif recited poetry over a bonfire. Past midnight, Salahuddin Khawaja and Mosharraf Ali Zaidi from the BSc class of 1997 also joined in the fun. The nostalgic day ended with humorous promises amongst the alumni to get together again before another twenty years pass!
