The Lahore University of Management Sciences, (LUMS) organised the Badminton Open 2018 from February 15 to 18, 2018. More than 150 students from different universities, schools and colleges across the country participated in this four-day event.
The competitions were conducted for five categories that included, male singles, female singles, male doubles, female doubles and mixed doubles. The entire tournament was organised in accordance with international rules and was setup with the coordination of Mr. Usman Ali and Mr. Adnan Aziz. Mr. Usman Ali, the chief umpire has completed an international course on Badminton Umpiring earlier this year. Mr. Hashir Bashir, international Badminton Player had been invited to the closing ceremony as well.
“The purpose of these competitions is to promote sports activities in the country and prepare the participants for international competitions,” commented, Mr. Babar Asad Khan, Head of Department, Office of Sports, Wellness and Recreation.
The winners for the finals of the different categories were as follows:
Male Singles Winner: Raza Ali
Male Singles Runner Up: Tayyab Shafique
Female Singles Winner: Aqsa Zakriya
Female Runner-up: Laiba Masood
Mixed Doubles Winner: Huma Batool and Anas
Mixed Doubles Runner Up: Hafsah Afridi and Rohaan
Female Doubles Winners: Huma Batool and Aqsa Zakriya
Female Doubles Runner-ups: Laiba Masood and Hamda Masood
Male Doubles Winners: Hafiz Wasif and Samer Butt
Male Doubles Runner-ups: Tayyab and Anas
