It was an enjoyable evening for the close-knit alumni community in Brussels on Wednesday, March 6, 2019 when they came together for a meet-up with the new LUMS Rector, Mr. Shahid Hussain at the Hotel Renaissance in Brussels, Belgium.
It was an intimate meeting that allowed for deeper discussions and free-flowing conversations on topics ranging from the current diplomatic situation between India and Pakistan to the education conference Mr. Hussain was visiting the city for. Alumni talked about their lives and careers after LUMS, and ideas were exchanged on how the alumni can be more involved with the University’s initiatives and activities.
As the evening wore on, the alumni also engaged in a holistic discussion about the strong European alumni network and how it can best be leveraged for the betterment of LUMS. Ideas discussed included supporting fresh graduates and fellow alumni with regards to job openings, social integration support for new arrivals in the area, giving back to LUMS in terms of both monetary gifts and time-intensive endeavours, and just generally fostering a sense of community.
It was heartening for the alumni to also hear about all the exciting new developments underway at LUMS under its new vision, and their discussions thus centred around specific steps they can take as a strong alumni network to help further the key aspects of these new directions. The alumni enjoyed acquainting themselves with the new Rector and concluded the evening on a collective resolve to stay connected with their alma mater.
