Reiterating their belief in LUMS as a world-class institution, Muhammad Amer Sheikh, Group Head for Commercial and Retail Banking Group (CRBG) at Allied Bank Limited, handed over a cheque worth PKR 30 million to the Vice Chancellor of LUMS, Dr. Arshad Ahmad on May 27, 2019. The cheque is intended for the construction of the M-7 hostel by the National Management Foundation as well as the naming rights. Allied Bank has been a generous donor in the past, giving a total donation amounting to PKR 183 million to LUMS till date. Dr. Ahmad thanked the ABL management for their long standing support and discussed various other avenues for further collaboration including student scholarships, industry placements and support for art displays on campus.
Mr. Sheikh was accompanied by ABL management, Mian Muhammad Azeem, Regional Head CRBG; Abrar Saleem, Branch Manager and Muhammad Hassan Saeed, Brand Manager. The LUMS team also included Dr. Adnan Khan, Dean of Office of Student Affairs; Nuzhat Kamran, Director Office of Advancement and the Donor Relations team.
Ms. Kamran spoke about the National Outreach Programme (NOP) at LUMS, which was initiated in 2001. She said that a total of 1100 students have been inducted into this programme, with a significant number of NOP alumni, working for prestigious institutes such as Unilever, Reckitt Benckiser, Coca-cola and others. Ms. Kamran added that some of the NOP alumni have completed their Masters from Ivy League universities such as Harvard.
The management of the Bank was amazed at all the LUMS initiatives that they were briefed about by the LUMS team and encouraged them to bring some of their Programmes to other cities beyond Lahore. To this effect, Dr. Arshad explained that LUMS will soon be kick starting some Rausing Executive Development Centre programmes in Karachi, and would love the management of ABL to be a part of those trainings.
ABL’s management mentioned that they have launched a digital branch on campus for the first time, and have had a huge success rate. A formal opening for that branch is planned after Ramadan. The cheque handing ceremony ended on a very positive note with plans to further strengthen the ABL and LUMS partnership.
