Dr. Sohail Qureshi appointed Ahmed Dawood Professor

Dr. Sohail Qureshi, Dean SBASSE, has been appointed as the Ahmed Dawood Professor. The Ahmed Dawood Chair was generously established by the Dawood Family for the SBASSE Dean so as to maintain the high faculty and educational leadership standards at LUMS.

 
Dr. Qureshi had been serving as Professor of Biology at the LUMS School of Science and Engineering since January 2011 and has been appointed as Dean of SBASSE, on November 1, 2011. He joined LUMS-SBASSE after serving the Aga Khan University for seven years. Dr. Qureshi earned his doctorate in Molecular Biology in 1989 from the University of Maine-Orono (USA) and subsequently carried out his postdoctoral research work at Glasgow University, Imperial Cancer Research Fund (London) and Cambridge University. Having worked at Universities of Glasgow, Cambridge, Wisconsin-Madison and Invitrogen Corporation, his post-PhD research, teaching and corporate experience spans a period of over 20 years. He has published a number of seminal papers in top-tier scientific journals. His main areas of research are regulation of gene expression in extremophilic archaea and hepatitis-C.
