Conversation on Digital Pakistan Initiative

On Wednesday, December 11th, 2019, a conversation with the Head of Digital Pakistan inititative, Ms. Tania Aidrus was organized at Suleman Dawood School of Business LUMS. The session was attended by Vice Chancellor LUMS, Dr. Arshad Ahmad, SDSB Faculty including Professor Arif Nazir Butt, entrepreneurs from National Incubation Centre Lahore, and SDSB students.

 

The conversation revolved around the newly conceived Digital Pakistan initiative, covering areas of governance digitization, improving procurement practices, taxation, startup funding, and fintech. Multiple overlapping initiatives being planned by the Government of Pakistan were discussed by Ms. Tania Aidrus. Among other items, the concept of intermediary liability protection for online platforms was elaborated.

 

Socioeconomic initiatives to empower women and transform underprivileged communities were also discussed. Furthermore, the need for IT bootcamps in partnership with the education sector was highlighted. SDSB faculty jointly recommended organizing problem discovery workshops and consultations with relevant stakeholders to set the direction for Digital Pakistan Inititative.

 

The session concluded with an extensive question answer session followed by networking tea.
