The LUMS Bay Area Alumni had a festive night on Saturday, 3 June, 2017 when they held their annual reunion at the Los Altos Youth Centre in Los Altos, USA.
LUMS Pro Chancellor Syed Babar Ali and his wife Ms. Parwin Ali, along with faculty members Dr. Ihsan Qazi, Assistant Computer Science, and Dr. Sabieh Anwer, Associate Professor Physics, attended the event to welcome the alumni and their families.
The reunion kicked off with Syed Babar Ali speaking to the alumni in attendance, and updating them about the latest happenings at LUMS. He addressed the ever-increasing goals of the LUMS National Outreach Programme (NOP) in particular, and encouraged the alumni to give back to their alma mater by contributing to this worthy cause. Idris Kotari, who is the Vice President at Vasona Systems International LLC, attended the reunion as a special guest and also spoke on the occasion.
This was the first time that the alumni in the area held a get-together in Ramadan, and it was in the spirit of goodwill of this blessed month that alumni and their spouses broke their fast together.
As the evening unfolded, Sophia Khawaja, BSc 1998, President of the Chapter, was presented with a LUMS Ambassador certificate and pin by Syed Babar Ali for her outstanding engagement in keeping the alumni active in Bay Area. This was soon followed by Chapter Elections. Running unopposed, Sanam Humayun, BSc 2005, was elected as the Vice President, Arfah Saeed, MS 2012, was elected as the Secretary, and Bilal Mahmood, BSc 2013, was elected as the Treasurer of the Chapter.
Overall, the reunion was attended by many new alumni, who had a great time networking with fellow Luminites in the area. It was an entertaining evening for all, and the alumni eagerly await their next meet-up.
