Faculty Profile

Hassan Mohy-ud-Din is the Director of Clinical and Translational Imaging Lab and an Assistant Professor at the LUMS School of Science and Engineering. He completed his PhD and MSE in Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) and MA in Applied Mathematics and Statistics (AMS) from Johns Hopkins University (JHU) on ECE-JHU fellowship (2009 – 2015). From 2015 – 2017 he was a postdoctoral associate in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at the Yale School of Medicine. From 2017 – 2018 he was a Clinical Research Scientist at Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Center.

His research lies at the intersection of Applied Mathematics and Medical Imaging. His work on dynamic cardiac PET imaging won the 2014 SNMMI Bradley-Alavi fellowship and the 2014 SIAM student award. His work on robust cardiac imaging was shortlisted for Top 10 posters in Cardiovascular Basic Science track at the 2015 SNMMI meeting. His work on non-invasive biomarker quantification for coronary microcirculation was featured as a news story in Medical Physics followed by a dedicated review article from Stanford. He has published his work in leading scientific journals (IF > 21) and presented it at various conferences and universities around the world. He has given 13 Oral Presentations and 21 Invited Talks and also serves as a reviewer on major scientific journals and conferences (IF > 18). He also carries a university teaching experience of over 12 years (UET Lahore, SBASSE LUMS, and Johns Hopkins University).

Hassan recently launched the Clinical and Translational Imaging Lab at LUMS under the banner of National Center for Big Data and Cloud Computing. This lab will (probably) be the first of its kind in Pakistan focusing on novel computation algorithms and techniques in multi-modality (medical) imaging. The over-arching goal of this lab is to develop a symbiotic relationship between engineering, mathematics, and clinical sciences in Pakistan where these realms, to this day, are largely disconnected. This pioneering effort is being funded by a start-up grant awarded by Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering, LUMS and a research grant (PKR 20 million) awarded by the Higher Education Commission and Planning Commission of Pakistan.

Apart from academics, Hassan is extremely fond of reading poetry, literature, music and sports. He regularly posts poetry on Facebook which is a selection from an ocean reflecting the philosophy and nuances of life and the world we dwell in.
