Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering to Hold Biology Talk 2018

Wednesday, April 11, 2018 - 2:00pm to 3:00pm
SSE Dean’s Smart Lab, 4th floor

Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering to Hold Biology Talk 2018 on the topic 'Discovery and analysis of genes behind plant organ growth and development for crop genetic improvement' as per the following schedule:

Guest Speaker

Dr. Usman Aslam

Date:   April 11, 2018
Time:   2:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Venue:  SSE Dean’s Smart Lab, 4th floor

Recent advancements in genome sequencing and mutation mapping have provided new foundations for functional genomics in crops with complex genomes. Limits of growth and immunity are inter-linked and genetically programmed in plants. The research findings of Dr. USman Aslam reveal novel genes and regulatory mechanisms of cell expansion, endoreduplicaiton and plant immunity that could be helpful to devise innovative strategies to improve crop yield and quality.

About the speaker
Dr. Usman Aslam was awarded the President’s Doctoral Fellowship of the Chinese Academy of
Sciences (CAS) and The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) in 2013. His PhD research was
focused on unravelling new genetic pathways involved in plant organ size control specifically by
modulating endoreduplication. His expertise is genetics, plant molecular biology, cell biology, and protein interactomics.

The event will be hosted by Dr. Amir Faisal.
