Abstract

The stress-associated proteins (SAPs) constitute an 18-member family of A20/AN1 zinc-finger proteins in rice and play distinct roles in stress-specific responses. Functional characterisation of cadmium stress-regulated OsSAP1 and OsSAP14 recombinant proteins revealed redox dependent conformational changes. Subsequent, Förster Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET) based analyses revealed that SAPs interact with EF-hand containing Ca2+-binding protein named calmodulin-like49 (CML49) and this module function at the crossroad of redox- and Ca2+-signaling for improving plant stress tolerance e.g. Cd toxicity.

Biography

Dr. Farooq graduated from Universität Bielefeld, Germany where he completed his thesis work in Karl-Josef Dietz laboratory. His research interests focus on understanding molecular mechanisms of plant acclimation to a changing environment. The redox regulatory signaling network of the plant cell senses metabolic disequilibria and modulate the fast responses at transcriptional and translational level. To this end, he deepens his understanding by identifying components of redox regulatory signaling network of the plant cell. Several publications have appeared in high-impact international journals, such as Journal of Experimental Botany, Frontiers in Plant Science, Journal of Plant Physiology and certain others.
