About the Speaker
Prof. Ben Boer is a Professor (Emeritus) of the University of Sydney and a Distinguished Professor at the Research Institute of Environmental Law of the University of Wuhan. Prof. Boer has taught and researched in the area of environmental law since 1979. Appointed as a Professor in Environmental Law at the University of Sydney in 1992, Prof. Boer was one of the founders of the Australian Centre for Environmental Law, the Deputy Chair of the IUCN World Commission on Environmental Law from 2012 to 2016 and is the Co-Editor, with Prof Qin Tianbao, of the new Chinese Journal of Environmental Law. In addition to publishing a number of books, book chapters and ar-ticles in the field of environmental law, he has also drafted environmental legislation for three countries, including law on national parks and other protected areas and has conducted a large number of capacity building programmes and major research exercises on Protected Areas Law. With Professor Qin Tianbao, he is the leader of the research project “The Development of Interna-tional Environmental Law and the Construction of Ecological Civilization,” a Chinese key research project of humanities and social sciences in universities.
