Five speakers will be giving 10 minute lectures each on their experiences within the education space, talking about the challenges they have faced along their respective journeys and the impact their work has had. SOE PEP Talks will follow a Ted Talk style and format. Students will have 15 minutes at the end of the PEP Talk session to present questions to the panel of speakers.

Invited Speakers:

1)      Adeel Hashmi: arts and education expert, Faiz Foundation Trust

2)      Imran Sarwar: educator and founder, Rabtt

3)      Master Ayub: educator and philanthropist, Master Ayub Park School

4)      Ben French: portfolio manager, Oxford Policy Management and former Punjab DfID representative

Day 2: Tuesday, February 28, 2017

Speed Networking

Experts from the field of education will be invited as “mentors” to engage in dialogue with LUMS undergraduate students. The aim of this event is to facilitate interaction between students and experts so that LUMS students gain exposure to the various challenges, perspectives and opportunities within the education sector. The purpose is to help students find out more about each mentor, their field of work and opportunities for students in the education sector in Pakistan.

Structure

Mentors will be seated in pairs at roundtables with four to five students each. Pre-circulated mentor bios will have been provided to the students attending. Each group of students will be given 10 minutes at each table to ask mentors questions. A bell will signal the end of the round, signaling the group of students to move on to the next table of mentors allowing a new group of students to take their place.

Audience: Only LUMS students may attend Day 2 of LUMS EdFest 2017.

Day 3: Wednesday, March 1, 2017

Documentary Screening

A documentary centred on education related issues will be screened for the members of the LUMS SOE Community and Professional Networks. This will be followed by a discussion moderated by Dr. Mariam Chughtai, Doctorate in Education, Harvard University to discuss the content’s application to Pakistan’s context. Attendees are invited to dinner after the screening.
