The emergence of COVID-19 has served as a disruption to contemporary education, catalysing the transition to online teaching and learning. In coming together to take on the task of rethinking how we teach and are taught, both students and faculty have had to unlearn and relearn a great deal over the past few months. Much time and effort by faculty has been invested in planning and working out the dynamics of online courses and assessments, while paying heed to students’ workloads and constraints imposed at home. Despite the challenges this has posed, in the process of building online teaching capacity and formulating online classes, innovative ways of teaching and learning have emerged.

Profiles of Panelists
Dr. Arshad Ahmad - Vice Chancellor, LUMS
Prior to his current role as Vice Chancellor, LUMS, Dr. Arshad Ahmad served as Vice Provost, Teaching and Learning, and Director of the MacPherson Institute at McMaster University in Canada. Dr. Ahmad completed his MBA and subsequently PhD in Psychology at McGill University, won a lifetime 3M National Teaching Fellowship in 1992 and was a professor of finance at Concordia and McMaster Universities. His research interests are in student evaluations of teaching, approaches to teaching, teaching philosophies and student partnerships.
Dr. Faisal Bari – Interim Dean, School of Education, LUMS
Dr. Bari is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences and Interim Dean of the School of Education at LUMS. His current teaching interests are in the areas of philosophy of education inclusion, economics of education, game theory, microeconomics and industrial organization. His research interests are also in the same areas. He writes a fortnightly column for the daily, Dawn.
Dr. Suleman Shahid - Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, School of Science and Engineering and Director, LUMS Learning Institute
Dr. Shahid’s research focuses at the intersection of design, technology and wellbeing with applications to assistive technologies to enhance the quality of life of persons with disabilities, and persons with mental health conditions, learning technologies for children (child-computer interaction) and human computer interaction for development (HCI4D/ICT4D). Since 2009, he has been offering consultancy and training services in the areas of service design and user experience (UX) design and strategy. Dr. Shahid received his PhD in human-computer interaction in 2011 from Tilburg University, the Netherlands and PDEng (Professional Doctorate in Engineering) in 2007 in User System Interaction program from Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands.
Dr. Faiza Ismail - Assistant Professor, School of Law, LUMS
Dr. Ismail obtained her Ph.D. in Business and Law from University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland, completed her LLM from Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, and LLB from SM Law College Karachi, Pakistan. Her teaching interest falls within the ambit of Commercial law, Finance law and Legal reasoning. Dr. Ismail is particularly interested to experiment with the innovative strategies to teach law. Before joining LUMS, she has worked with the Institute of Business Administration, Karachi as a Research Consultant. Her research examines legal and regulatory issues relevant to IMF, Anti Money Laundering Laws, Cyber Laws in Finance and Islamic Finance in the US, UK, and Pakistan.
