"Love and Revolution: Faiz Ahmed Faiz, the authorized biography" is the first ever biography of Pakistan's most famous dissident poet, Faiz Ahmed Faiz. Written by Faiz's grandson, Ali Madeeh Hashmi and published by Rupa Books New Delhi, the book is a meticulously researched account of the life and work of Faiz. At the same time, the book is interspersed with interviews and comments from some of the poet's closest friends and family members to create a very personal portrait of Faiz the man, the poet, the journalist and the intellectual. Starting with the life of Faiz's father, Sultan Mohammad Khan who rose from being a poor shepherd boy to the chief secretary to the King of Afghanistan, the book takes us through Faiz's birth in a small village outside Narowal, his childhood, his government college years, his first job in Amritsar and his service in the British Indian army during the 2nd World War and on to his marriage and later imprisonment. His poetic evolution is described through multiple lenses as well as his years of exile outside Pakistan during successive military governments. This book is a valuable resource both for the Faiz aficionado  as well as as the casual reader who wants to learn more about this remarkable man'.
