About the speaker
Dr. Kamran Shams is the CEO of the Punjab Educational Endowment Fund (PEEF), the flagship programme of the Punjab Government, which started with an Endowment Fund of PKR 1 billion in 2009. Today, its endowment stands at PKR 17 billion and scholarships worth PKR 16 billion have been distributed to more than 300,000 meritorious and needy students from all over Pakistan through this fund.
Dr. Shams has been nominated by the Punjab Government on the Boards of Directors of Punjab Saaf Pani Company North, Punjab Saaf Pani Company South and Lahore Knowledge Park. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Akhuwat, a not-for-profit microfinance organisation which has helped 2.4 million families by providing them interest free loans totalling PKR 55 billion.
Trained as a medical doctor from King Edward Medical College, Dr. Shams joined the Civil Services in 1991 and gained experience of working in diverse public sector organisations including the Civil Services Academy, the Federal Secretariat and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
Dr. Shams has also worked with the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) as a consultant for their Basic Education Project, which aims at improving the quality and delivery of education in South Punjab, after the promulgation of the Local Government Ordinance 2001.
