Sudheendra Kulkarni is Chairman of the Observer Research Foundation (ORF) Mumbai, a non-partisan public policy think tank. He is also Chairman of the Mahatma Gandhi Centre for Sanitation, Cleanliness and Community Health. Between 1998 and 2004, he served as a close aide to India’s former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the Prime Minister’s Office. He is a well-known socio-political activist author in India. He is a leading columnist in Indian newspapers and a commentator on TV channels. Kulkarni is also a committed promoter of inter-faith harmony, and has participated in many inter-religious dialogue activities in India and abroad. He is also actively engaged in efforts to promote India-Pakistan, India-Bangladesh and India-China friendship. At ORF Mumbai, he has established, in collaboration with Reliance Foundation, the JI XIANLIN CENTRE FOR INDIA-CHINA STUDIES at the University of Mumbai. In January 2014, Kulkarni organized an Inter-Faith Conference in Mumbai called ‘People’s SAARC’ to promote peace, harmony and solidarity in South Asia. He has been participating in unofficial ‘Track II Dialogues’ for peace and normalization of relations between India and Pakistan.
A regular visitor to Pakistan, he has established the Mumbai-Karachi Friendship Forum to promote India-Pakistan amity.
