About the speaker

Muhammad Amir Rana is a security and political analyst and director of the Pakistan Institute for Peace Studies, an independent think-tank based in Islamabad. As a journalist and book author, he has written extensively on issues of militancy, terrorism and counter-terrorism, security issues, and national and regional politics in both English and Urdu. His books include ‘A to Z of Jehadi Organizations in Pakistan’; ‘Arabs in Afghan Jihad’; ‘Dynamics of Taliban Insurgency in FATA’; and most recently, ‘The Militant: Development of a Jihadi Character in Pakistan.’ Rana has also been associated with the Institute of Defense and Strategic Studies in Singapore as a visiting fellow, and frequently appears as an expert on CNN, BBC World, Al Jazeera, France 24, CCTV9, Voice of America, and Al-Arabia.
