Hypoadiponectinemia Instigates NLRP3 Inflammasome Activation Mediates Alzheimer Disease and Associated Dementia

A Talk by by Dr. Shahid Ali Shah

Date: Wednesday, October 24, 2018
Time: 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
Venue: Dean’s Smart Lab, 4th floor, SBASSE Building

Host: Dr. Amir Faisal

Abstract

The link between hypoadiponectinemia induced energy deprivation and NLRP3 inflammasome activation in the brain remains elusive. Here, the Speaker reports for the first time that NLRP3 inflammasome activation in young adiponectin knockout (AKO), aged AKO and APP/PS1 mice brain. Activated NLRP3 inflammasome triggered amyloidogenic amyloid beta (Aβ) production and aggregation, caused memory impairments and suppressed long term potentiation (LTP) and associated dementia.
