Dr Khayam Javed will be speaking about the transcription factors that play an important role in cell fate determination.
Date: Friday, April 19, 2019
Time: 11:30am-12:30pm
Venue: 10-302, SBASSE 3rd Floor
Host: Dr. Aziz Mithani
About the seminar:
Identity of one cell type can be changed by the forced expression of transcription factors. However, not all the cells are interconvertible. The mechanistic details of this resistance to reprogramming is currently elusive. The seminar will study the competition between transcription factors by TF competition ChIP and investigate the finding that a cell fate determination factor must stay longer to induce reprogramming than it was previously considered.
About the speaker:
Dr. Khayam did his Undergrad in Chemistry and Biotechnology from the University of the Punjab, Lahore, with a gold medal. Following that, he pursued his M. Phil in Molecular Cell Biology from the same institute. During his M. Phil, he visited MIT and Cold Spring Harbor for short courses on drug delivery and Cell & developmental Biology respectively. Currently Dr. Khayam is working on Cell reprogramming in Prof. Sir John Gurdon’s lab at the University of Cambridge.
