Biology Seminar on Epitranscriptome Conducting the Orchestra in Cell Fate

Friday, April 12, 2019 - 2:15pm
10-304, SBASSE 3rd Floor, LUMS

Dr. Shahzina Kanwal will be speaking on RNA biology, an emerging field in development as well as in cell fate decisions.

Date: Friday, April 12, 2019
Time: 2:15 pm – 3:15 pm
Venue: 10-304, 3rd Floor, SBASSE, LUMS

About the Seminar
RNA binding proteins (RBPs), the crucial candidates, will be explored in the seminar, as well as how to capture and to functionally characterise different kinds of RBPs en route of differentiation. Novel readers and repellents of RNA modifications e.g. m6A or m1A will also be investigated. Dr. Kanwal will discuss about the novel method to capture nascent RBPs (RICK published in nature methods), differential RBPs captured in three different states of mouse embryonic stem cells (On going unpublished study), and Differential novel readers and erasers of m6A.

About the Speaker
Dr. Kanwal is working at Gunagzhou Institutes of Biomedicine and Health as visiting Scientist under Chinese Academy of Sciences. Previously, she completed her postdoctoral fellowship at the same institute in RNA Biology and Regenerative medicine (June 2015- December 2017). Before joining as postdoctoral fellow, she worked at NUST as an Assistant Professor (August 2013- April 2015). Dr. Kanwal obtained her doctorate and Master’s degrees from Paris V University and Montpellier II University, respectively.
